Continuous Data Warehouse: Concepts, Challenges and Potentials

چکیده
The multidimensional structures or hypercubes are commonly used in OLAP (On Line Analytical Processing) to store and organize the data with the goal of optimizing query response time. The multidimensional approach is based on the concept of facts or measures analyzed with respect to various prospects or dimensions to facilitate the decision making process. Dimensions can be seen as axis of analysis, forming a vector space in which each cell is located by a set of coordinates. In the conventional multidimensional structures dimensions have discrete values and are organized in different levels of hierarchies. However, when dealing with the analysis of natural phenomena like meteorology or pollution the discrete structures show some shortcomings. Our goal is to introduce mechanisms, based on interpolation, to the spatial and temporal dimensions which will give the user the impression of navigating in a continuous hypercube even though it is discrete. Having continuous dimensions enables users to navigate in the hypercube in totally different ways. In this paper we go over some of the concepts and research issues associated with continuous multidimensional structures and we list some of their potentials.

A real-time data warehouse is a collection of recent and hierarchical data that is used for managers’ decision-making by creating online analytical queries. The volume of data collected from data sources and entered into the real-time data warehouse is constantly increasing. Moreover, as the volume of input data to the real time data warehouse increases, the interference between online loading ...
متن کاملTowards Ontology-Driven Approach for Data Warehouse Analysis
Understanding, reusing, and maintaining data warehouse resources is a key challenge for data warehouse users. Data warehouses resources are shared by different groups of users. The interpretation of information is subjective, it depends on user knowledge. Thus, a resource, like a data cube, is interpreted differently from a user to another. Unfortunately, misinterpreting data could induce serio...

متن کاملA Survey of User-Centric Data Warehouses: From Personalization to Recommendation
Providing a customized support for the OLAP brings tremendous challenges to the OLAP technology. Standing at the crossroads of the preferences and the data warehouse, two emerging trends are pointed out; namely: (i) the personalization and (ii) the recommendation. Although the panoply of the proposed approaches, the user-centric data warehouse community issues have not been addressed yet. In th...
